Week 4: Wednesday 1st November 2000
Clipping Groups. Layers 'dress up' exercise
Clipping Groups allow you to mask part of your image, leaving a picture inside text or whatever is on the layer below it, simply by alt-clicking on the line between layers. Learning more about layers from the 'dress up' cartoon exercise.

Week 5: Wednesday 8th November 2000
Type Tool for adding text. Pen Tool.
How to add type to your images. An introduction to using the Pen Tool. We will be back to this half way through our QuarkXPress sessions as the pen tool is an essential means of removing the background from images to be used in catalogues. The pen tool is also central to Adobe Illustrator. Meantime it can be the best way to make some selections even when you only wish to work in Photoshop.

Week 6: Wednesday 15th November 2000
Image adjustment using Levels, Curves and Hue/Saturation
Selection by Colour Range, Feathering.
Photoshop 6 makes effects even easier to apply with the little f symbol at the bottom of the layers palette. Photographs can be greatly enhanced by adjusting levels, curves and hue and saturation.
Using the Select Menu>Colour Range for more subtle selections than the magic wand. The select menu also allows you to feather, anti alias and expand your selection.

Week 7: Wednesday 22nd November 2000
Adobe Photoshop 6 - New Features.
Photo Retouching Tools / Layer Effects
Adobe Photoshop 6 has added some new features. First we need to find some old ones! FAQ of changes including the Paint Bucket now hidden behind the Gradient Tool, and how to rename layers by choosing Layer Properties from the drop down menu at the top right of the layers palette. Warp Text.
Using the Blur/Sharpen/Smudge and Dodge/Burn/Saturation tools from the Tool Palette.

Week 8: Wednesday 29th November 2000
From Photoshop to QuarkXPress
Using paths to remove the background from a Photoshop image.
Save as EPS and bring into QuarkXPress. Introduction to QuarkXPress.

Week 9: Wednesday 6th December 2000
QuarkXPress 4.1
