Summary

A 10 week course to develop intermediate and advanced Adobe Flash skills for animation, Web design & games.
We will also look at the challenge from HTML5 and alternative ways to provide content for mobile devices.

What are the Course Aims?

The course is for anyone who wants to learn Flash using Windows or Mac computers.

Where can it lead to?

Flash is the industry standard, ideal for anyone wanting to gain employment or design professional sites.

What will I study on this course?

Adobe Flash has powerful features to create your own animation, Web design & games:

Preparing .png images in Photoshop/Fireworks. Importing to the library for a photo gallery or image-based animation.

Animating a banner or button for a Website. Exporting as swf, animated gif and QuickTime movies.

Creative type and motion graphics: frame-by-frame, shape tweens and motion tweens to morph text and objects. Guide layers for your animated objects to follow, masks and filters.

Character design and the animation tools Bones and Inverse Kinematics. Alternatives to Flash for character animation including Anime Studio, Toon Boom, 3D packages & HTML5.

Working with sound, adding it to the library and animation timeline in the most appropriate formats.

Using video clips within your Websites, galleries or animation and creating Flash flv video files.

Pre-loaders, components, building Flash Websites. Games design & actionscript coding language that powers Flash.

Adding Flash .swf animation to your site or uploading to Newgrounds and YouTube. Copyright issues.

Are there any resources or materials required?

The software is installed on the college computers. For students wishing to do additional work from home free 30 day trials are available from Adobe. Student rates for the software are available or you can subscribe monthly.

Are there any other costs?

Free basic Web hosting will be provided for the duration of the course together with advice on purchasing a domain name (.tk addresses are free, .coms and .co.uk about £6 per year) and ongoing hosting (from free to expensive).

How will I be assessed?

No formal assessment. Help during the sessions & via email support. Totton College course completion certificate.

What are the entry requirements?

No previous experience required but some content may be challenging as the software is for professional-level use.
