This exercise will show you how to enhance a graphic using Curves.

Asian Bride Open the file ‘AsianBride’ (right-click on the image left and save to your drive) and then use Ctrl+J (CMD-J on Macs) to copy the background layer.

From the Menu Bar choose Image>Adjustment Layers>Curves and place your cursor in the middle of the curve and raise it slightly. Now move your cursor to the right and lower the curve. You will see that the shadows disappear, which allow more detail of the bride’s dress to show.

To check the before and after effect, use the History Palette. If it isn’t showing, from the Menu Bar choose Window>History and from the bottom of the History Palette use the Snapshot icon to take a snapshot of your finished work. Click on the square on the left of Snapshot 1 to make the History brush appear.

Now click on the thumbnail of the original graphic (the layer above Snapshot 1) and then click on the thumbnail of Snapshot 1 to see the finished effect.

Name your work, save and print.
