Activities are subject to change depending on the needs of the group! There should be some time for you to work on your own sites in addition to the subjects discussed each day.

Week Saturday
Introductions and first webpage
Introduction to the course. Create first webpage using page properties, the toolbox and properties inspector. Website management: root folder, file_names, index.html page. Adding a second page and links. Previewing your website in a browser by pressing F12. View source - a peek at the html code you are creating with Dreamweaver.
Website fundamentals
Setting typefaces, size, style and colour. Designing for your readers using the Window Size pop-up to prepare your site at a suitable size (800 x 600 or 640 x 480 pixels recommended). Spellchecking.

Personalise your site with images
Adding your own pictures from disc, by scanning or digital photography. Editing images with Adobe Photoshop or Imageready. Graphic file formats: jpeg and gif.

Improving layout control
Using layers to position images and text where you want them. Converting layers to tables for version 3 browser compatibility.
Introduction to using tables to structure your page layout. Refining tables to improve layout. Table spacing and padding. Rulers and tracing images.
Rollovers in Dreamweaver
Creating simple and multiple Rollovers. Dreamweaver writes the JavaScript.
Onto the Web
Uploading and testing your site so far. Burn a copy to cd to take home.


Between times
You may wish to use the time at home to gather images, plan your site or a simple animation

Week 2   Saturday

Dynamic HTML, Behaviours
Simple animation within Dreamweaver using DHTML to move layers around. Using behaviours to extend Dreamweaver with JavaScript - creating pop-up windows and other irritants features.
Adding interest and enhancements
Adding sound, QuickTime movies, Flash and Shockwave animation elements. Web video formats.
A look at Flash animation
Investigate Flash 5, a natural partner (and perhaps rival) to Dreamweaver.
Flash enhanced sites and online tutorials for those who would like to know more.

Templates, Library Items and Frames
Templates and Library items help ensure consistency throughout your site and allow faster site-wide modifications. Frames may help navigation but we look at some consequential problems and some alternatives to framesets.

CSS
Using Cascading Style Sheets to master text, backgrounds and remove the underlining from links.

Search engines, META tags
Domain names. Help search engines with META tags to boost the numbers who find your site.... Making informed decisions about how many of your target audience can access a feature.
Onto the Web again. Q&A
Updating and testing your site so far. Burn a copy to cd to take home.
Question and Answer session to try to resolve any issues outstanding.
